Services for High School Students and Recent Graduates
Career Testing For the purpose of assessing skills, interests, and personality to help students identify strengths, potential college majors and/or career pursuits. Participants meet with one of our counselors at least three times and get written and verbal feedback. Based on the identified skills and abilities, there is also the possibility of being connected with paid internships. The fee for the Career Testing Package is $400. Club Compass A community group for young adults that meets monthly and offers individuals an opportunity to develop social skills, make friends and have fun. Activities can include game nights, hiking, cooking and more! Activities are held at local JCCs, local recreation facilities, colleges and attractions. There are fees for some programs; please call for information or check our calendar.
“Ready, Set, Go…” A workshop for graduating seniors that will help to prepare young adults for the transition phase into college. Topics include how to get organized, managing time and money, making the decision to live away form home, preparing to become independent and much more.
The Consortia for Learning and Services to Special Populations (CLASSP) A program for typical teens at various JCCs on Long Island, Northern Queens and Brooklyn, to work in paid internships in afterschool or Sunday respite programs designed for children with special needs. Teens work at least 2 hours a week within a program for children with disabilities. Some opportunities include working in a social skills class on Sundays, being a homework helper, working in an early childhood program or daycare or afterschool program. Teens then participate in 15 hours of training at CW Post on Sundays, throughout the academic year, taught by JCCA staff and Ramapo for Children, which will provide each teen participant with one AP college credit. The course consists of lectures, discussions, studentpresentations, reading assignments, journal writing and observations as well as the hands on experiential/field work. This program which is funded by a J.E. and Z.B. Butler Foundation grant through UJA-Federation of New York.
