Brief Strategic Family Therapy

Brief Strategic Family Therapy® (BSFT) helps troubled youth and their families grow through strengthening relationships, building connections and creating long-lasting change. BSFT® is a short-term, structured, problem-focused and practical approach for the treatment of youth conduct problems, associations with antisocial peers, early drug use and the accompanying maladaptive family interactions (relations), all of which are recognized risk factors for delinquent behavior and substance abuse.

Most families are in the best position to help their children. By improving family relationships, addressing family problems and providing parents with leadership tools, youth transform their lives. BSFT® provides the family with necessary skills to function successfully during therapy and beyond. Because BSFT® makes the family the focus of treatment, improvements typically last long after therapy has ended.

BSFT® is a specialized intervention, which is three times more effective than other treatments in bringing youth and their families into treatment. BSFT® is typically delivered in 12-16 family sessions, but may be more or less depending on the severity of the problems within the family. Sessions are usually conducted in the family’s home. BSFT® is being practiced throughout the United States and in other countries.

JCCA is the largest BSFT® provider in NYC. JCCA BSFT® therapists have received extensive training in the BSFT® model. The BSFT® therapist receives ongoing weekly audio-visual supervision of family sessions, providing accountability and fidelity to the BSFT® model.
