Located in the Bronx and Brooklyn, JCCA’s Family Ties programs works with at-risk families whose children have mental health issues. Its social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and administrators, are all trained to address the complex issues presented by families who are having trouble dealing with a child who is mentally ill, and who is at risk of being placed in foster care. In families where children are returning from foster care, support makes the return easier and works to stabilize the family. JCCA professionals make regular visits and provide parenting support and counseling to maintain children at home and strengthen the relationships among family members.
This general preventive program builds on families’ strengths to equip and empower them to manage their children on their own, within their community. The program targets families at risk for abuse or neglect in order to prevent foster care placement. Family Ties provides services to meet the needs of both the family and the child to promote the youth’s well-being and to foster the ability of the parents to lead physically and emotionally stable lives in pursuit of healthy and productive goals. The program’s holistic services are family-centered, strengths-based, and culturally-sensitive and are designed to defuse potential conflicts, reduce the incidence of violence, and promote the safety of the children and families.
