Mission

JCCA is proud to introduce our new NYC Volunteer Enrichment Program, an initiative that brings together children, youth, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners through meaningful, shared experiences. The program is built on a simple yet powerful belief: healing and belonging happen around tables, through conversation, and in memorable experiences that create lasting connections. From September 2026 through June 2027, JCCA will host enrichment activities that help youth and families connect with caring adults and access experiences that might otherwise be out of reach.

Program Details

Initiative ONE – The Community Dinner Table Series

Food insecurity continues to affect many of the children and families we serve. The Community Dinner Table Series transforms a meal into an opportunity for connection, engagement, and community building. The goal is not simply to provide a meal but to create a welcoming environment where families feel seen, valued, and connected. Hosted at community spaces and partner venues throughout New York City, these gatherings bring together JCCA families, volunteers, and supporters for an evening of shared family-style meals and meaningful interactions.

Volunteer Roles Include:

• Set-Up & Welcome: Prepare tables and event materials, greet families, and assist with check-in.
• Meal Service: Serve meals and beverages, replenish stations, and help families throughout dinner.
• Family Activities: Lead fun, hands-on activities for children and engage with families throughout the evening.
• Clean-Up & Departure: Help reset the space and assist families as they prepare for transportation home.

Initiative TWO – Exploration Without Barriers

For many children and families, access to New York City’s world-class cultural institutions remains financially out of reach. Exploration Without Barriers partners with local zoos, museums, aquariums, science centers, and other cultural institutions to offer immersive educational experiences that spark curiosity, learning, and joy. These outings strengthen family bonds and help young people envision possibilities beyond their immediate circumstances.

Volunteer Roles Include:

• Welcome & Check-In: Greet families and assist with check-in at pick-up locations or event venues.
• Set-Up & Hospitality: Prepare event materials, snacks, and hydration stations and assist with breakdown.
• Activity Support: Work alongside program educators to help families participate in activities and experiences.
• Group Guides: Help families navigate schedules, activities, and locations throughout the day.
• Lunch Support: Help coordinate, set up, and distribute meals during full-day experiences.
• Clean-Up & Departure: Assist with breakdown and help families transition at the end of the event.

Requirements and skills

• Deep interest and ability to relate to inner-city young people
• Interest in helping others
• Must go through the orientation and registration process
• Volunteers 18 and older may volunteer alone
• Volunteers under 18 must come with parent supervision
