JCCA’s Preventive programs stabilize and strengthen families in crisis. With assistance, many families can resolve immediate problems and keep children safely at home. Programs offer assessment, crisis intervention and treatment in a variety of models to best assist families at critical points. Our professional staff can assist families who may be struggling with family conflict, substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, behavior problems, truancy, parental stress and children who are at risk of abuse and neglect. We use a family approach to support and strengthen families to prevent out-of-home placement and to reunite families after such placements.

JCCA provides collaborative outreach and links families to schools, health care, recreation, advocacy and community services. JCCA’s Preventive Services are conveniently located in Brooklyn and the Bronx. We offer several in-home evidence-based models (Functional Family Therapy, Brief Strategic Family Therapy and Child Parent Psychotherapy) as well as two holistic models (Helping Hands for Families: Family Treatment Rehabilitation and Family Ties: General Prevention). Services are family-centered, strength-based and culturally-sensitive in their design to defuse potential conflicts, reduce the incidence of violence and promote the well-being of children and families.
