Who We Are
Stephen Sokoloff
For Stephen Sokoloff, JCCA’s president from 1992-1994 and a Trustee since 1969, serving on the Board was a family tradition—his father was also a longtime trustee. Mr. Sokoloff’s quiet leadership has involved him in many aspects of JCCA’s operations. His financial background—he was at Schroeder & Company (later to become Smith Barney)—made him a logical choice to head the agency’s investment committee, which he led for many years. He also served on the Board of Education of the Mt. Pleasant Cottage School Union Free School District and took a leadership role in the long-term planning effort in the late 1980’s that helped define JCCA’s future direction. Mr. Sokoloff, who lives principally in Scarsdale with his wife Helena, also has been involved with the Ackerman Institute and UJA-Federation, but describes JCCA as “my number one commitment.”
